A recognised alternative to A Levels and better suited to mature students, these one year programmes will see you study with like-minded colleagues to achieve your goal.
What are Access courses?
Access to HE Diplomas are a well-established set of qualifications designed for people who do not have the qualifications to enter a university level course but who do have life experience and a willingness to learn.
Are they nationally recognised?
Yes. They are regulated by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), a national body which ensures the quality of degree courses.
Will an Access qualification enable me to gain a place at a university?
Yes. Our supportive tutors and careers team will help you make your application while you are with us, usually by mid-January.
Many Access students underestimate their own potential and abilities having often been out of education for many years, or having had a negative experience in their previous education. However as a more mature student you bring experience and a motivation to studying which many universities value greatly. Be positive in your application to university and remember to draw upon your wider experience of life, always trying to make it relate positively to your chosen degree course.
What are the fees for an Access course?
The one-year course costs between £3000 and £3900 depending on the subject (no separate registration or exam fees).
Funding may be available if you have no Level 3 qualifications or claim Jobseekers’ allowance. Advanced Learner Loans are available; if you successfully complete the course and progress to a higher level qualification the loan may be written off. We also have a payment plan if you wish to pay instalments: please ask for further details.
