Higher Education

We offer a number of Higher Education courses for those students who are looking to take the next step after completing their Level 3 qualifications.

A Higher National Certificate is a full-time course that takes one year to complete for anybody who is looking to take the next step after completing a Level 3 diploma or Apprenticeship. We offer a HNC in Construction, Engineering, Sport, Public Services, Health and Social Care, Computer Science.

A full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) is a work-related course that take two years to complete. Equivalent to the first two years studying at university, a HND is one level above a HNC.

Art, Design and Media

ABC Level 3/4 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media

This one year foundation art course has a broad programme allowing you to gradually specialise in your chosen area, preparing you for higher level study at the university of your choice. During the course you will go on a residential trip and complete a final project in your chosen discipline, preparing you for employment or university.


Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Vehicle Diagnostics

If you have completed a relevant level 3 qualification, or have industry experience, then this course is for you. On this one year course you will learn advanced diagnostic skills through higher level fault finding experience, professional discussions with Master Technicians and some self-study. This course will widen your employment opportunities or allow you to progress to level 5 management qualifications in the automotive industry.

Beauty Therapy & Media Make Up

VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management 

If you are ready to develop your career in the beauty industry and already have either a relevant Level 3 qualification or workplace experience, then this course is for you. On this one year course you will study five mandatory units including management of health, safety and security; quality management; sales management; public relations and salon management. You will then select additional optional units to enhance your experience and understanding in either hairdressing or beauty therapy.


Foundation Degree in Children’s Development & Learning

This course is delivered in partnership with the University of Reading. You spend the first two years studying at BCoT one afternoon/evening per week. There is then the opportunity to spend the final year at the University of Reading to ‘top up’ to a full BA (Hons) degree. This course provides the ideal opportunity to work towards a degree alongside relevant employment and is half the cost of a traditional degree programme at university.

Computer Science

Level 4 HNC in Computing

The Level 4 HNC is a specialist vocational programme which has been designed around professional requirements for the computing industry. This course provides the opportunity to progress into the second year to our partner universities. Units include: computer architecture, networking, computing projects and security.


Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment

This Level 4 course is designed for those already working within the built environment sector. There are specific pathways relevant to your employment or desired specialism. Career development include working in-house for a large public or commercial company, including local authorities, housing associations and consultancies to specialist contractors or large multi-service companies offering a range of design, build, finance and management. Built Environment courses provide an academic platform to enter a number of post HNC courses, such as the BA (Hons) in Architectural Technology at Southampton Solent University. 

Hairdressing and Barbering

Level 4 VTCT Diploma in Salon Management

This higher-level qualification is aimed at experience and qualified hairdressers aiming for a higher career in salon management. You will learn about the management of health, safety and security, quality management, sales management, public relations and salon management. Health & Social Care

Level 4 BTEC HNC Diploma in Health & Social Care Management

This two year course is designed to develop your existing qualifications, skills and knowledge in health and social care practice to help you progress onto a degree-level course or advance your career prospects in health and social care. The HNC includes units on the principles of health and social care practice, professional development, managing people, managing budgets and safeguarding.

Level 4 BTEC HNC Diploma in Health & Social Care

This course is aimed at developing your existing qualifications and skills in health and social care practice and will benefit those who may want to progress onto a degree in health and social care. The course is taught across two years: a first year HNC at Level 4, followed by the potential for progression on the second-year Level 5 HND. You will learn about practice values, professional development, partnership working, safeguarding and physiological principles. View Health & Social Care here.

Public Services

Level 4 BTEC HNC Diploma in Public Services

Whether you have ambitions of gaining entry into one of the uniformed Public Services, either emergency services or Armed Forces, or have an interest in studying this subject at a higher level, this course will introduce you to the exciting and challenging world of the Public Services. The course consists of a mixture of practical and theoretical subjects, with lots of opportunities to develop new skills in a wide variety of subject areas. View Public Services here.


Level 4 BTEC HNC Diploma in Sport (Health, Fitness & Exercise)

This two-year specialist course is built around the professional requirements of working in the leisure industry. You will gain an understanding of fitness training and instructing, sports nutrition and sports psychology. This course is a high quality and affordable option if you want to build a career in sport and leisure particularly in management or if you wish to pursue more professional roles within the sport and exercise industry.
