BCoT Sports Department announces key signing
The Sports Department at Basingstoke College is delighted to announce that it has signed a partnership with Crystal Palace FC Foundation. The deal will give both male and female students the opportunity to study a sports course and to train and play as part of a BCoT and Crystal Palace Football Education Academy.
BCoT already run successful football teams which students can take part in alongside their academic sports studies but tutors think that linking with Crystal Palace will provide an added incentive.
Course director Darryl Taphouse said “At BCoT, we already have flagship Level 1, 2 and 3 sport and fitness qualifications. An extra opportunity will now be provided for our students to be part of the BCoT and Crystal Palace Football Academy alongside their studies. We see this as an exciting chance for footballers to not only develop their football performance, but also gain valuable industry experience linking to a Premier League Football Club.”
“We are looking to run both male and female football squads as a way to add value to this programme. The Crystal Palace FC Foundation link will really enhance what we can offer our students.”
The CPFC Foundation was established in 1989 to promote, among other things, quality sports provision and health and well-being. Initially focussing on its local area of south London, the Foundation now works with local and national organisations in pursuit of these aims. BCoT is one of a few colleges outside London to have linked with them.
“And this isn’t just about wearing premier league kit!” added Jamie Dockree, BCoT’s Football Academy Manager. “Our plans involve interacting with Crystal Palace staff including; coaches, sports analysts, sports psychologists and strength and conditioning coaches to enhance training sessions and lessons to inform our students about roles in professional sport, on and off the pitch.”
“Additionally CPFC will send scouts to observe selected matches, provide opportunities to play against Crystal Palace FC Foundation Elite teams and offer links to suitable semi-professional clubs for players who show potential.”
BCoT will be officially launching the new scheme with an invitational tournament at the Brighton Hill Power League pitches on Friday, 23rd October. Students applying to start Sports course at the College from September 2016 will be able to take part in trials for the BCoT and Crystal Palace Football Education Academy.
