Part Time

Course Overview

If you want to be a midwife, nurse, social worker, psychologist or other health professional but don’t have GCSE English and Maths grade C or above, our Level 2 Progression to Access Course could be the course for you. 

Starting in January 2018 for a period of six months on a part-time basis, we’ll help you take the first steps towards your career change and prime you with those all-important employability skills.
 

If you do not have a level 2 qualification in English and maths you will study Functional Skills English and maths alongside the vocational units.

You will study in college three days per week between 9.30am  and 3pm.

Course Content

In addition to English and Maths you’ll have the chance to:

  • Learn how to build a personal career portfolio, set goals for your personal development, plan your career and investigate your options
  • Develop communication skills needed for the workplace
  • Find out about health and safety awareness in a work environment
  • Improve your grammar and punctuation skills
  • Build your problem solving skills
  • Understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and discrimination plus the rules around disability, society and the law
  • Gain vital work experience
  • Discover the fundamentals of IT communication
  • Learn how to use presentation software
  • Study the investigative process, principles and develop your practical skills
  • Work towards beginning the one-year full-time access course starting in September

Entry Requirement

This course is suited to anybody who does not have GCSE English and Maths grade C or above but is looking to study at university in the future. There are no formal entry requirements but you will be expected to have an interview with the course tutor.  

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies.

You will take examinations in English and maths if required.

Where does this course lead to

This course is a recognised pathway onto the Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma, which on completion, will then allow you to study at university.
