Dame Maria brings exceptional expertise to the College's Board of Governors, combining extensive experience in government, diversity advocacy, and communications. Her distinguished career includes over 19 years as a Member of Parliament for Basingstoke, during which she served as both a Government Minister and Select Committee Chair. This political experience is complemented by 20 years in advertising, marketing, and public relations, providing a well-rounded perspective on communication and public engagement.

Since leaving Parliament in July 2024, Dame Maria has focused her expertise on advising organisations on Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion. As former Minister for Equalities, she played a pivotal role in the landmark passage of the Equal Marriage Act, securing equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. Her profound commitment to promoting diversity and equality was recognised by Her Late Majesty the Queen with the award of a Dame Commander of the British Empire, acknowledging her lasting national impact.
