Course Overview

This two-year BTEC extended diploma will prepare you for a range of careers in engineering or further study at university. You will cover areas including maths and communications for technicians, workshop practices, computer-aided design (CAD), engineering drawing, electrical and electronic principles, and computer-aided manufacturing.

Course Content

You will cover areas including maths and communications for technicians, workshop practices, computer-aided design (CAD), engineering drawing, electrical and electronic principles, and computer-aided manufacturing. Employment opportunities range from telecommunications, electronic and mechanical engineering, design, sales, quality control, maintenance, manufacturing, or production engineering.

Entry Requirement

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or a relevant Level 2 qualification.

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and cooperative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local businesses wherever possible.

Where does this course lead to

Students may progress to a higher national certificate or degree course, an advanced apprenticeship, or employment.
