Course Overview

The NCFE qualification is a 2-year course, designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success within the exciting, dynamic and ever-changing world of the Uniformed Public Services. Students will work closely with various Uniformed Services, such as The British Army, The Royal Marines/Royal Navy, Hampshire Air Ambulance and Thames Valley Police.


Learners will enrol for year 1 and then have the option of leaving with their year 1 qualification or re-enrolling for year 2 (extended diploma).


Course Content

NCFE L3 Diploma for entry to the Uniformed Services (Year 1)

Within year one, you will;

  • Prepare for a Career in a Chosen UPS
  • Develop Aspects of Physical Fitness for Entry to the UPS
  • Develop Leadership Skills
  • Understand Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
  • Understand Uniformed Services Values & Standards
  • Research and Develop Mental and Physical Wellbeing
  • Carry out Map Reading and Navigation Across Open Country
  • Undertake Volunteering alongside the uniformed services
  • Understand Security procedures in the uniformed services


NCFE L3 Extended Diploma in the Uniformed Services (Year 2)

Within year two, you will;

  • Understand Uniformed services hierarchy and routine
  • Develop the use of Telecommunications within the uniformed services
  • Understand conflict management and personal protection
  • Discover The influence of the UK government & the media on the uniformed services
  • Understand the impact of war and conflict on uniformed services 
  • Develop Skills for land-based outdoor and adventurous activities
  • Develop Skills for water-based outdoor and adventurous activities
  • Plan and take part in an Outdoor and adventurous expeditions
  • Understand discipline in the uniformed services


Students will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of enrichment activities; which include; 


  • Residential trip to the Isle of Wight
  • Opportunity to gain First Aid and Lifeguarding (NPLQ) Qualification
  • Guest Speakers from all Uniformed Services
  • Visits to external partners, including Longmoor Barracks (British Army), CTCRM Lympstone (Royal Marines) and use of our local Gym/Sports partners.


Entry Requirement

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or a relevant level 2 qualification.
  • Or completion of our Level 2 Public Services and Sport NCFE Diploma.

Assessment

This course contains no exams, and your skills will be developed and assessed through assignments, workbooks and visual skill/coaching assessments. Learners can achieve up to 168 UCAS points within the 2-year course.

Where does this course lead to

Learners who complete this qualification can go onto; 


  • Higher Education - Learners have gone on to study degrees such as BSc (Hons) in Counter Terrorism, BA (Hons) Public Services or BA (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education. 


  • Services Apprenticeships - We partner with Thames Valley Police and are able to offer students (who reach minimum criteria) a guaranteed interview with Thames Valley to join their Level 4 Policing Apprenticeship. Or our Apprenticeship team can help assist learners in other areas. 


  • Full-time Employment - Learners have enrolled directly into Careers such as the Police or Armed Forces; receiving support from Lecturers and IP Coordinator to enable them to apply within year 2 and enrol straight after completing the Extended Diploma.
