FIND A COURSECourse Introduction
This UAL 2-year programme provides a comprehensive introduction to the creative industries - offering students a solid foundation in the knowledge, skills, and attributes related to working in the creative industry.
Students will explore a wide range of skills and disciplines, in preparation for a career in creative practice.
The course is designed for post-16 students aiming for a career in the creative arts, who want to expand and develop that interest through a full-time programme.
The qualification will allow students to deepen their understanding of the industry, eventually specialising in a particular area of practice, such as fashion and costume design, or model making.
The course gives students an in-depth introduction to the creative industries, along with a broad foundation of related knowledge, skills, and attributes associated with the creative process.
In the second year, after which students will be awarded the Extended Diploma in Creative Practice, further develops a student's knowledge of the creative industries, allowing them to explore and select a specialist practice focus, and develop skills and knowledge central to supporting and sustaining an individualised specialist creative career.
The Creative Industries department at BCoT boasts excellent facilities and equipment, alongside lecturers with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, allowing students to produce a wide range of high-quality work.
Whether you are interested in Concept Art, Character Design, Photography, Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation, 3D Modelling, Storyboarding and Comic Book Art, Environment Design, Traditional Drawing, Fashion and Costume or Product Design, this expertly designed programme will allow you to explore your ideas and concepts to produce work to be proud of.
During the first 6 weeks of term, students will be guided through 3 challenge projects, which are a fast-paced method of getting used to the departmental expectations and processes - looking at briefs and the skills required for further projects throughout the year.
After this, students’ timetables are split into 4 pathways, looking at different areas of the creative industry, such as Fashion and Costume Design and Model Making, taught by industry experts.
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, maths and preferably a creative subject.
- Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification.
- A portfolio of work demonstrating an appreciation, understanding and aptitude for the subject.
Students will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the subject towards the end of each of the two years, through a Final Major Project - selecting their chosen creative specialism. This is their assessed assignment.
Successful completion of this course opens up a variety of exciting progression pathways for your future including higher education, a related apprenticeship or employment.
The content of the course was developed collaboratively with representatives from universities and further education colleges to ensure that it provides students with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to progress into higher education, further education or other training opportunities.
