Course Introduction
This UAL one-year course has been developed to provide students an opportunity to explore the materials, methods and processes necessary in the creative industries.
The course structure provides a solid base of skills and knowledge and an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within art and design, through a programme of projects.
The course is designed for post-16 students aiming for a future career in the creative arts who wish to expand and develop that interest through a full-time programme.
This qualification allows students to build an understanding of the industry, and the skills required to research, develop and evaluate ideas through a series of project briefs.
The Creative Industries department at BCoT boasts excellent facilities and equipment, alongside lecturers with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, allowing students to produce a wide range of high-quality work.
Whether you are interested in Concept Art, Character Design, Photography, Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation, 3D Modelling, Storyboarding and Comic Book Art, Environment Design, Traditional Drawing and Painting, Fashion and Costume or Product Design, this expertly designed programme will allow you to explore your ideas and concepts, in order to produce work to be proud of.
In the first 6 weeks of term, students will be guided through 3 challenge projects, which are a fast-paced method of getting used to the departmental expectations and processes - looking at briefs and the skills required for further projects throughout the year.
After this, students’ timetables are split into 4 pathways, looking at different areas of the creative industry, such as Fashion and Costume Design and Model Making, taught by industry experts.
- Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English, maths and preferably a creative subject or completion of our Future Pathways course.
- A portfolio of work demonstrating an appreciation, understanding and aptitude for the subject.
Students will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the subject towards the end of each of the two years, through a Final Major Project - selecting their chosen creative specialism. This is their assessed assignment.
Successful completion of this course would allow you to progress to Level 3 Art, Design and Communication Diploma (you will need to achieve a minimum of a merit grade and at least 90% attendance) or a related apprenticeship/employment.
Students will be equipped with the relevant knowledge, skills and understanding needed along with a broad portfolio of work.
