Course Overview
Whether you’re just leaving school and want to join the automotive industry or are already employed and want to enhance your skills with a relevant qualification, this course will help you to meet your goals.
It is designed for students who have either successfully completed the IMI Level 1 or 2 Diploma, or those who have prior achievement in other relevant subject areas and an interest in vehicle electrical systems.
You will learn about vehicle electrical principles, vehicle starting and charging systems, auxiliary electrical systems and use of electrical testing equipment.
You will be taught in the College’s industry-standard workshops and technical classrooms by experienced tutors with industry experience.
Course Content
This course is made up of the following units all of which contain a theory and practical element.
- Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
- Supporting Job Roles in the Automotive Environment
- Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment
- Locating and Correcting Simple Electrical Faults in the Automotive Workplace
- Enhancing Vehicle Electrical Systems
- Inspecting Vehicles Using Prescribed Methods
- Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components
- Removing and Fitting Basic Light Vehicle Mechanical, Electrical and Trim (MET) Components and Non Permanently Fixed Vehicle Body Panels
Entry Requirement
GCSE English and maths at grade 3 or above, or Level 1 Functional Skills, or completion of our Future Pathways course
Assessment
You will be assessed through a combination of online examinations and vehicle and workshop based practical assessments, as well as completing a wide range of units based around vehicle electrics.
The course is accredited by the Institute of Motor industries (IMI). The final qualification is the IMI Level 2 Diploma in Auto Electrical and Mobile Electrical Principles.
Where does this course lead to
Successful completion will enable students to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma, an apprenticeship or into employment
