Course Introduction
Whether you’re just leaving school and want to join the automotive industry or are already employed and want to enhance your skills with a relevant qualification, this course will help you to meet your goals.
During this IMI qualification, you will learn about vehicle electrical principles, vehicle starting and charging systems, auxiliary electrical systems and the use of electrical testing equipment.
This course is made up of the following units all of which contain a theory and practical element.
- Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
- Supporting Job Roles in the Automotive Environment
- Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices Used in the Automotive Environment
- Locating and Correcting Simple Electrical Faults in the Automotive Workplace
- Enhancing Vehicle Electrical Systems
- Inspecting Vehicles Using Prescribed Methods
- Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components
- Removing and Fitting Basic Light Vehicle Mechanical, Electrical and Trim (MET) Components and Non Permanently Fixed Vehicle Body Panels
- Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths or completion of our Future Pathways course.
You will be assessed through a combination of online examinations and vehicle and workshop-based practical assessments, as well as completing a wide range of units based around vehicle electrics.
The course is accredited by the Institute of Motor Industries (IMI).
Successful completion of this course would allow you to progress to Level 3 Motorsport Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Diploma or Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Diploma or a related apprenticeship/employment.
