This City & Guilds qualification is aimed at learners who wish to work as an electrician in the building services industry. The course has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform to progress further into an apprenticeship programme or into employment. This route at Level 2 is a step towards becoming a competent electrician.
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as:
- Scientific principles
- Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
- Electrical installation technology
Centres and providers work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where the employers will also provide possible work placements. This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the electrotechnical industry or specialist further study.
- Four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, including English and maths or completion of our Future Pathways course.
- Learners should be 16-19 years old.
- Successful completion of the Level 2 Construction Multi-skills including the optional electrical unit.
- Successful completion of a fulltime Level 1 Electrical qualification.
The assessment methods include:
A synoptic assignment, which is externally set,
internally marked and externally moderated.
The assignment requires candidates to identify
and use effectively, in an integrated way, an
appropriate selection of skills, techniques,
concepts, theories, and knowledge from across
the whole content area.
A theory exam, externally set and externally
marked, and can be taken either online through
City & Guilds’ computer-based testing platform, or as a paper-based exam. The exam is designed to assess the candidate’s depth
and breadth of understanding across the
mandatory content in the qualification at the end
of the period of learning and will be sat under
invigilated examination conditions.
This technical qualification focuses on the development of
knowledge and practical skills needed for working in the
electrotechnical industry, which will prepare you to enter
an electrotechnical apprenticeship programme or
progress onto the level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical
Installation. On completion of the Apprenticeship, the
learner will be recognised by the industry as competent as
an installation or maintenance electrician.
