Course Introduction

This two-year course covers a range of childcare and educational subjects that support students who would like to work in early years or primary education.

You will complete a certificate in your first year, before completing the full diploma in year two.

Course Content

The course includes mandatory work experience within various childcare and educational settings.

You will receive instruction, guidance and encouragement to practice and develop the skills necessary to achieve the award.

The course includes mandatory work experience within a range of childcare and educational settings to complement the knowledge and skills you will learn. You will be expected to complete 365 hours in year one and 385 hours in year two.

Optional trips may be arranged during the course, these trips will have a cost attached and you will be informed of these well in advance.

Entry Requirement

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, maths and preferably a science.
_Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification.

Assessment

The course is assessed through creative projects, written assignments and time spent and tasks undertaken in vocational work placements.

You will be required to complete an extended project each year, which is externally marked.

Where does this course lead to

Successful completion of this course opens up a variety of exciting progression pathways for your future including higher education, a related apprenticeship or employment.

Many students progress to a degree in areas such as teacher training for employment in education, private homes or playgroups/nurseries. (Note that GCSE grades C or above in English, maths and science are required for teacher training).
