This apprenticeship programme includes learning about the primary role of a Leader in Adult Care, who inspires teams to make positive differences in someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. The apprentice will be responsible for the development and implementation of the care service provided. They may be responsible for business development, financial control, organisational resilience and continuity as well as for managing risk and leading any organisational change. They will learn about safeguarding and protection for vulnerable adults, leadership, effective caring, and being responsive to people’s needs. 


Apprentices will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance of the care given and the values and training of staff with established standards and regulations. Some of the core competencies the apprentice will learn include: developing and applying systems and processes needed to ensure compliance with regulations and organisational policies and procedures, leading and supporting others to work in a person-centred way and ensuring active participation which enhances the well-being and quality of life of individuals, and taking initiative to research and disseminate current drivers in the adult care landscape.

This apprenticeship programme includes learning about the minimum skills, knowledge and behaviour needed for the role of a leader in adult care.  By the end of the apprenticeship the learner would have also achieved a level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care which is internally assessed and provides apprentices with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage practice and lead others in adult care services.


Apprentices must achieve the 20 mandatory units (75 credits) and the remaining 15 credits from the optional units to achieve a minimum of 90 credits in total. This course is internally assessed.

They will also be expected to complete Maths and English Functional skills if they do not have any equivalent qualifications.


Throughout the apprenticeship learners are expected to demonstrate their growth and development in the form of 20% off the job training which may include shadowing, attendance at training, 1-1 training sessions, meetings

 

The Apprentice should be working as a Deputy/Assistant Manager or Manager in an adult care setting and hold a relevant Level 3 qualification with a minimum of a GCSE at C/4 grade (or equivalent) maths and English qualification or the willingness to complete this as part of the course. 


Throughout the programme the apprentice will be supported by a \business Trainer to submit a variety of evidence which may include:

Completion of Knowledge tasks
Observation of practice by occupational competent Assessors, Witnesses or Expert Witnesses in the workplace
Examination of work Products
Professional Discussions
Reflective accounts
Case Studies

At the end of the apprenticeship the learner will need to complete an end point assessment to determine the outcome fail, pass or distinction and for the Lead Practitioner in Adult Care the end-point assessment (EPA) consists of two assessment methods:

Observation of Leadership

 2. Professional discussion. 

The EPA should be completed within three months after being meeting the gateway requirements and can be undertaken in any order and over a maximum of two days.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, with the transferable skills gained, the apprentice can progress further within their chosen profession into a wide range of care roles across many sectors, which may include registered manager or area manager. The apprentice may also progress their training further and undertake relevant qualifications related to their role in the workplace at level 6 or above.
