Course Introduction

This one-year UAL qualification has been developed to provide students an opportunity to explore the materials, methods and processes necessary in the production process.

The course provides a strong and comprehensive foundation in multiple areas within the Creative Media industry, including graphic design, audio production and interactive media.

The course structure provides a solid base of skills and knowledge and an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within the creative media industry, through a programme of projects.

The Level 2 Creative Media Production and Technology diploma is designed for post-16 students aiming for a future career in media who wish to expand and develop that interest through a full-time programme.
This qualification allows students to build an understanding of the industry, and the skills required to research, develop and evaluate ideas through a series of project briefs.

The Creative Industries department at BCoT boasts excellent facilities and equipment, including our new state-of-the-art Virtual Production Studio, offering students access to the same technology used on major Hollywood projects such as Star Wars and House of the Dragon. The suite is equipped with advanced motion-tracking cameras, an advanced green screen and lighting set-up, and high-end video editing and colour-grading hardware and software.
All of this, alongside lecturers with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, allows students to produce a wide range of high-quality work.

Whether you are interested in Audio Production, Interactive Elements such as Web Design and Game Development, Visual Components for example Photography, Animation and Video Editing, Advertising, Journalism or Virtual Production, this expertly designed programme will allow you to explore your ideas and concepts, in order to produce work to be proud of.

There is also a strong contextual base in understanding an audience and the types of media products suitable for them, along with how products and designs fit within a historical context.

During the first 6 weeks of term, students will be guided through 3 challenge projects, which are a fast-paced method of getting them used to the departmental expectations and processes - looking at briefs and the skills required for further projects throughout the year.
After this, students’ timetables are split into 4 pathways, looking at different areas of the creative industry, such as Virtual Production and Journalism, taught by industry experts.

At the end of each year, learners will then undertake a longer, Final Major Project (FMP), which will be assessed.
  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths or completion of our Future Pathways course.
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating an appreciation, understanding and aptitude for the subject.
Students will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the subject towards the end of each of the two years, through a Final Major Project - selecting their chosen creative specialism. This is their assessed assignment.
Successful completion of this course would allow you to progress to a Level 3 Diploma or T Level or a related apprenticeship/employment.

Students will be equipped with the relevant knowledge, skills and understanding needed along with a broad portfolio of work.

The content of the course was developed collaboratively with representatives from universities and further education colleges to ensure that it provides students with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to progress into higher education, further education or other training opportunities.
