Course Overview

This course is designed to provide a thorough exploration of the exciting world of broadcast media content creation and production.


Whether you are a filmmaker, journalist, advertiser, or corporate communicator, this course will help you navigate and thrive in this dynamic field.

You will predominantly work to produce a wide range of digital content using our new state-of-the-art virtual production studio. This has cinema-grade technology such as motion-tracked cameras and a green screen studio; high-spec video editing and colour grading hardware and software; and real-time rendering equipment allowing content creators to see digital environments live on set so they can make creative decisions on the spot.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the historical background, current trends, and practical applications of virtual production studios. From pre-production to post-production, the course will focus on essential workflows and the importance of teamwork and communication. 

This is a hands-on practical course that will cover various aspects such as advanced cinematography, incorporating virtual elements into different media platforms, and using virtual production in advertising, live news production and corporate videos. By using industry-standard tools and discussing emerging technologies, participants will gain valuable skills to succeed in the ever-changing media production industry.

Course Content

1: Introduction to Virtual Production
This is designed to give you a solid foundation in virtual production and its role in content creation and production, including its history and major milestones. You'll get a comprehensive overview of the current industry landscape, virtual production tools, technologies, industry trends, and real-life case studies.

2: Virtual Production Workflows
You will dive into the practical side of virtual production, including pre-production, production, and post-production workflows. You'll learn how to seamlessly integrate virtual elements into live-action footage, focusing on collaboration, communication, and budgeting within virtual production teams.

3: Cinema
Here, you'll take a cinematic approach, covering advanced cinematography in blending real and virtual environments. You'll learn about real-time rendering, lighting in subjects in real and virtual sets, and how to create realistic virtual characters and creatures, with examples from blockbuster films.

4: News Broadcasting
This focuses on broadcast news production and includes incorporating virtual sets and graphics in news broadcasts. You'll learn about using real-time data visualization and augmented reality in news reporting while addressing practices, challenges and ethical considerations in news production.

5: Advertising
This explores the world of advertising, emphasizing how virtual production can be used for creative and impactful advertisements for both TV and Social Media. You'll learn how to seamlessly integrate virtual elements with live-action footage, analyze successful campaigns, and explore interactive and immersive advertising experiences.

6: Corporate Video
For this, we'll explore the key uses of corporate video content and cover how virtual production can enhance corporate communications. You'll learn how to create engaging training videos using virtual environments, incorporate virtual elements for product presentations, and use virtual production in corporate events and conferences.

7: Virtual Production Tools and Technologies
We will provide you with an in-depth look at the tools and technologies used in virtual production. You'll gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, learn how to integrate virtual cameras and motion capture systems and acquire troubleshooting skills for common issues in virtual production setups.

8: Motion Capture
This delves into the fundamentals of motion capture, exploring its applications and transformative impact on creating lifelike virtual experiences. Participants will gain hands-on experience and insights into advanced techniques while addressing ethical considerations in utilizing mocap for virtual storytelling.

9: Future Trends and Innovations
Finally, you will focus on the future of video production, exploring emerging technologies in the field. You'll engage in discussions about the future of virtual production, participate in industry expert talks, and have the opportunity to showcase your own projects and presentations on innovative virtual production concepts.

Entry Requirement

You will need to be aged 16-18 in order to apply for a T Level along with five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths.

Assessment

One exam, an employer-set project, assessments, professional discussion, 315 hours of industry placement.
