This Access to Higher Education Diploma has a strong emphasis on both biology and chemistry and learners will have the opportunity to study both equally to give a balanced view of skills to enable progression to medicine-based degree programmes.
The course has been designed to provide entry to University and is worth 21 credits in Biology, 15 credits in Chemistry and 9 credits in clinical skills. At the end of the course, you will have 45 credits which are graded and 15 credits which are ungraded study skills. The course is suitable for mature students who have been out of full-time education for at least one year and do not have the relevant qualifications for entry to higher education.
As part of your learning, resources and assignments will be uploaded to Google Classrooms for you to use.
You will attend college three days a week usually Monday to Wednesday from 9.30am to 3pm.

- Most suited to 19+ from the beginning of September.
- GCSE English and maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
If you do not have either maths or English you can complete this in addition to the Access to Higher Education course. You will be required to undertake an initial BKSB English or maths assessment as well as an English written task to assess your ability to complete this course successfully. If you pass the initial English/ maths assessment, you will be required to enrol on Level 2 Functional Skills English or maths to undertake this alongside your Access to Higher Education course. This qualification is required by all Universities so is compulsory for you to pass this to successfully progress to University.
May be suitable for 16-19 year olds if funding is available and subject to information, advice, guidance and interview.
