Course Introduction

This qualification covers a wide range of key health and social care subject areas. The course includes a wide range of optional units, allowing learners to pursue an interest in the specific areas of social care, health studies and health sciences, while still allowing enough diversity for the optional units to be tailored to suit a learner’s preferred progression path.

This qualification was developed by subject matter experts with input from employers and higher education institutions.

CM5: Infection prevention and control in health and social care
CM6: Psychological perspectives in health and social care
CM7: Sociological perspectives in health and social care
CM8: Working in health and social care
CM9: Reflective practice

Year 2
DM3.1: Anatomy and physiology for health and social care
DM1: Empowerment in health and social care
DM2: Protection of children, young people and adults in health
and social care
DM4: Research skills for health and social care
DM5: Personal and professional development
CMO2: Biochemistry for health
CMO7: Genetics in health and social care
CMO11: Microbiology for health
DMO3: Ethics in health and social care

Entry Requirement

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, maths and science.
Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification.

Assessment

An external assessment in your first year.
An external assessment in your second year.
A short examination question paper on anatomy and physiology in your second year.
Internal assessed course work.
Industry Placement is mandatory.
