Course Introduction

Institute of Apprenticeships Reference Number: ST0002

Apprenticeships let you learn on the job, develop knowledge and skills, gain an AAT Accounting  Qualification and earn money – all at the same time.

This apprenticeship is ideal for someone just starting their journey in accounting and can be the first step on the ladder to becoming a fully qualified Accountant.

You will learn on the job and in college taking into account how you would assist in the day-to-day financial activities such as data entry to month-end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements.  In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

You’ll study an AAT qualification by attending a college class one day a week with qualified tutors who all currently still work in the accounting industry.

Study units include: Advanced Bookkeeping and Preparing Final Accounts, Management Accounting  Costing, Professional Ethics, Indirect Tax

Benefits:

  • it’s a sure way of getting into the workforce
  • earn while you learn

  • learn a business from the bottom up while you develop your skills

  • fast-track your career and move up the career ladder quicker than a university graduate, and without the university debt

The units studied will be:

  • Advanced Bookkeeping
  • Final Accounts Preparation
  • Management Accounting: Costing
  • Indirect Tax
  • Ethics for Accountants
  • Spreadsheets for Accounting
  • Synoptic Preparation

Students should have Maths and English to GCSE Level Grade C or above. To start Directly at Level 3 an AAT Foundation Certificate Level 2 is required.

Each unit will be assessed by way of a computerised examination. Successful completion of all exams at each level will result in the qualification being awarded.
