FIND A COURSECourse Introduction
This occupation is found in a range of settings which can include day nurseries, playgroups, nursery schools, pre-schools, kindergartens, primary schools, hospitals, social care settings, out of school environments and local authority provision. The broad purpose of the occupation is to be a proactive and influential practitioner, working directly with children, skilfully leading day to day practice at an operational level.
The Level 5 Early Years Practitioner Standard is currently being revised and the updated version will be available from September 2025.
The current standard covers a range of criteria including:
- Ethical and rights based approaches
- How children learn and factors which can impact their health and well-being and associated theories
- Safeguarding, inclusion, equality and diversity
- Play and stimulating creativity
- Planning cycles and transitions through early education
- Reflection and life-long learning and development
- Recording and reports
- Collaborative approaches
Suitable role within an Early Years setting, with a Level 3 Early Years qualification, or higher. Level 2 English and maths preferred.
There are assignments throughout the time on programme to develop knowledge and skills, linked to the criteria of the standard.
The course progresses to an End-point Assessment, which is externally assessed.
