This NCFE qualification provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills that a practitioner must demonstrate to achieve a qualified Early Years Practitioner Level 2 in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Once completed this qualification allows a learner to count towards the level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner within the Early Years workforce.
This qualification provides leaners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from the age of birth to seven years of age
There are 14 Mandatory units to be completed which are internally assessed using a variety of methods.

- Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings
- Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings
- Understand how to support children’s development
- Support care routines for babies and young children
- Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities & educational programmes
- Promote play in an Early Years Setting
- Support well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
- Support babies and young children to be physically active
- Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disability
- Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings<
- Partnership working in the early years
- Support the needs of the child in preparing for school
This is a vocational course, therefore learners need to be working or volunteering in a suitable placement for example a nursery or reception class in school and must be over 16.
- English and maths level 1 qualification is required.
This diploma is delivered in the workplace using a variety of assessment methods collected throughout the course and include: workplace observations, witness testimonies, professional discussion, oral and written questions and work product evidence.
Learners can progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in Early Years or employment as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner.
