Course Overview
This NCFE qualification provides evidence of competence as a support teacher. It is suitable for those currently working in a school whose work roles are teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants engaged in face-to-face work with children and adults. Learners will be allocated a business trainer/assessor and supplied with all the necessary reading and assessment material and personal tutorial support at pre-arranged times. Learners will be assessed in the workplace via various assessment methods, including observation, witness testimonies, reflective accounts and professional discussions.
Learners need the support of their school so that observations and witness testimonies can take place in the workplace.

Course Content
To achieve the Level 2 Certificate Support Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification you must complete the mandatory units.
The mandatory units are:
- Schools as organisations
- Children and young people's development
- Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
- Help improve own and team practice in schools
- Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
- Support children and young people's health and safety
- Support children and young people's positive behaviour
- Support learning activities.
- Contribute to teamwork in a learning environments
- Support children and young people's play and leisure
- Promote an effective learning environment
- Provide displays in a learning environment
Entry Requirement
- A telephone interview is required.
- Learners must be aged 16 years or older.
- Learners should be working a minimum of 15 hours each week in a school.
- It will confer occupational competence for supporting teaching and learning and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to teaching and learning.
Assessment
Assessment is by the production of a personal portfolio of evidence demonstrating understanding and competence in practice of the learning outcomes of the Level 2 Certificate. Learners must complete a selection of assignment tasks as part of their evidence.
The learner will be assessed in their workplace by a qualified business trainer/assessor.
Where does this course lead to
This qualification can lead to a higher qualification for example the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in School.
