Improving business performance is vital for any business. Making improvements that are more
efficient - such as saving on time or costs - can have huge benefits to an organisation, particularly in
competitive business environments.
This NCFE qualification aims to build knowledge on the study of business
improvement techniques, including workplace organisation, building effective teams and managing
working relationships. It will also teach the importance of improving processes and procedures using
visual management systems and flow process analysis.
This qualification is designed for those that wish to learn about lean business improvement techniques and improving busines performance.
Throughout this course you will complete 6 units covering the following:
- Safe and effective team working - The aim of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of how to work safely and effectively as part of a team. Learners will understand regulations, safe working practices and procedures that apply to a work area, and be able to identify hazards and risks and how they can be reduced. Learners will also understand effective team working, the importance of building effective teams and working relationships, the types of problems that can occur and how to deal with them.
- Principles and techniques that support workplace organisation - The aim of this unit is to provide learners with knowledge of workplace organisation. Learners will understand the principles and techniques that support workplace organisation and the benefits of having an organised work environment.
- An understanding of continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen) and their application in the workplace - This unit aims to provide learners with an understanding of continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen) and their application in the workplace. It also covers the benefits of standard working methods and standardised work documents.
- How to use visual management systems - The aim of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of visual management systems and how they can be used to improve the work environment.
- Problem-solving techniques - The aim of this unit is for learners to understand how to identify and solve problems using formalised problem solving processes. Learners will understand how to identify and verify the root cause of a problem to prevent recurrence.
- How to carry out flow process analysis - This unit aims to give learners an understanding of flow process analysis. Learners will understand how to map out a process using recognised symbols within a process map and how to identify value added and nonvalue added activity to suggest improvements for a given work area.
In order to complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
- Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
- Will be undertaking your learning within England
- Are aged 19 or above
- There are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will need to have a good standard of English and maths.
- Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study.
- We recommended allowing a minimum of 5 to 6 hours per week to study this course in your own time.
- You will be given submission dates for each unit to help you stay on track and complete within the allocated timeframe of 6 months.
- This course is delivered through online assessments and online learning materials.
- You are required to study the learning materials online and then answer knowledge-based assessments that confirm your understanding of the topics.
- We encourage learners to reflect on their own experiences, work-based or personal, and include these within their answers where relevant and suitable.
- This is a level 2 qualification, answers should be formed in paragraphs and learners will be required to write in detail, using structured sentences demonstrating knowledge.
- Learners are allocated a Marker, who will provide feedback and guidance on all assessment submissions.
