Course Introduction
In an increasingly digital world, cyber security is becoming a concern for many organisations. With complex online scams and cybercrime, it’s essential that organisations understand preventative measures to maintain cyber security, including techniques and security checks needed to store data securely. This online course is a key starting point for anyone looking to begin their career in cyber security.
This course is split into 6 units:
- Introduction to Cyber Security - You will gain an understanding of the need for cyber security and the impact of cybercrime. You will also learn about the various job functions in the sector and related key skill requirements.
- Understand Terminology Used in Cyber Security - You will understand cyber security terminology and the concept of social engineering.
- Understand Legal and Ethical Aspects of Cyber Security - You will understand the key legislation related to cyber security and how to maintain data confidentiality and security. You will also understand ethical and unethical conduct within cyber security.
- Understand Common Threats to Cyber Security - You will develop an understanding of malicious software and how a system can be infected. You will understand common and emerging threats and physical threats to cyber security.
- Understand Methods of Maintaining Cyber Security - You will understand the preventative methods used to maintain cyber security, including the principles of user access control and the use of firewalls.
- Working with Others in Cyber Security - You will understand teamwork and the use of interpersonal skills and communication when working in a cyber security role.
To complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
- Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
- Will be undertaking your learning within England
- Are aged 19 or above
- There are no formal entry requirements for this course but you need to have a good standard of English and maths
- Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study.
- We recommended allowing a minimum of 5 to 6 hours per week to study this course in your own time.
- You will be given submission dates for each unit to help you stay on track and complete within the allocated timeframe of 6 months.
- This course is delivered through online assessments and online learning materials.
- You are required to study the learning materials online and then answer the knowledge-based assessments confirming your understanding of the topics.
- We encourage learners to reflect on their own experiences, work-based or personal and include these within their answers where relevant and suitable.
- This is a level 2 qualification, answers should be formed in paragraphs and learners will be required to write in detail, using structured sentences demonstrating knowledge.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
- Level 2 Certificate in Business Administration
- Level 2 Certificate in Lean Management Techniques
- Level 2 Certificate in Business Improvement Techniques
- Level 3 Certificate in Cyber Security Practices
- Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills
- Level 3 Award in Cyber Security Leadership
- Level 3 Foundation Technical Level IT: Cyber Security.
