FIND A COURSECourse Introduction
This course is designed to increase learners’ awareness and understanding of diabetes. By completing the qualification, learners will develop in-depth knowledge of diabetes which could support progression onto appropriate qualifications, and into relevant employment, in the health and social care sector.
The objectives of this qualification are to gain knowledge and understanding of diabetes,
including:
- the types, causes, signs and symptoms of diabetes
- anatomy and physiology
- the impact of diabetes on individuals, others and society
- the treatment and management of diabetes
- common complications of diabetes
This course includes four units which you need to complete in order to gain the qualification.
- Unit 01 Understand diabetes
- Unit 02 Diabetes in context
- Unit 03 Understand the treatment and management of diabetes
- Unit 04 Understand the complications of diabetes
To be eligible to study this level 3 qualification:
To complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
Learners who are not eligible for funding can access this course with an Advance Learner Loan.
- Learners will already have achieved a level 2 qualification in Management of Diabetes or a related subject
- Learners have achieved a level 2 or equivalent in English
- Learners will be required to provide a written statement explaining why they wish to undertake this level 3 and how this course will benefit them.
- Do not already hold a level 3 or above qualification or equivalent
- Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
- Will be undertaking your learning within England
- Are aged 19 or above
- If this is a second level 3 or above qualification or equivalent, are unemployed and receive Universal Credit or Job Seekers Allowance or earn below £34,000

- Studying via Distance Learning means you can choose when and where you study.
- We recommended allowing a minimum of 4 to 5 hours per week to study this course in your own time.
- You will be given submission dates for each unit to help you stay on track and complete within the allocated timeframe.

This qualification allows you to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of
diabetes.
Achievement of this qualification will help support progression into a variety of job
roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors
which support people with diabetes.
