Course Introduction

This qualification is designed for anyone who is seeking to increase their knowledge of end of life care in a vocational setting. It is aimed at those working in the healthcare sector whose job description includes caring for those who have a life-limiting illness.

This qualification is also appropriate for those who have already achieved other sector-specific qualifications in the healthcare sector who need to apply their understanding in a palliative care context.

This qualification aims to:
  • provide learners with a definition of end of life care
  • explore common questions and themes in end of life care
  • inform learners of the range of possible approaches to end of life care
  • provide learners with an understanding of how to support a person’s
  • familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs
  • prepare the learner to confront issues of death and bereavement

There are five mandatory units for this course:

  1. Understanding End of Life Care
  2. Communication During End of Life Care
  3. Assessment and Care Planning in End of Life Care
  4. Person-Centred Approaches to End of Life Care
  5. Care During the Final Hours of Life and Bereavement Care

To be eligible to study this level 3 qualification at BCoT
  • Learners will already have achieved a level 2 qualification in End of Life or a related subject
  • Learners have achieved a level 2 or equivalent in English
  • Learners will be required to provide a written statement explaining why they wish to undertake this level 3 and how this course will benefit them.
 
In order to complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
  • Do not already hold a level 3 or above qualification or equivalent
  • Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
  • Will be undertaking your learning within England
  • Are aged 19 or above
  • If this is a second level 3 or above qualification or equivalent, are unemployed and receive Universal Credit or Job Seekers Allowance or earn below £34,000

Learners who are not eligible for funding are able to access this course with an Advance Learner Loan.

Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study.  You will be given a learning plan with submission dates to meet over the 40 weeks.  

We recommended allowing a minimum of 5 hours per week to study this course in your own time. This course is available:

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following qualifications:
  • Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (England)
  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health
  • Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care
