This qualification is designed for anyone who is seeking to increase their knowledge of end of life care in a vocational setting. It is aimed at those working in the healthcare sector whose job description includes caring for those who have a life-limiting illness.
This qualification is also appropriate for those who have already achieved other sector-specific qualifications in the healthcare sector who need to apply their understanding in a palliative care context.
This qualification aims to:
- provide learners with a definition of end of life care
- explore common questions and themes in end of life care
- inform learners of the range of possible approaches to end of life care
- provide learners with an understanding of how to support a person’s
- familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs
- prepare the learner to confront issues of death and bereavement
There are five mandatory units for this course:
- Understanding End of Life Care
- Communication During End of Life Care
- Assessment and Care Planning in End of Life Care
- Person-Centred Approaches to End of Life Care
- Care During the Final Hours of Life and Bereavement Care
To be eligible to study this level 3 qualification at BCoT
In order to complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
Learners who are not eligible for funding are able to access this course
with an Advance Learner Loan.
- Learners will already have achieved a level 2 qualification in End of Life or a related subject
- Learners have achieved a level 2 or equivalent in English
- Learners will be required to provide a written statement explaining why they wish to undertake this level 3 and how this course will benefit them.
In order to complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
- Do not already hold a level 3 or above qualification or equivalent
- Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
- Will be undertaking your learning within England
- Are aged 19 or above
- If this is a second level 3 or above qualification or equivalent, are unemployed and receive Universal Credit or Job Seekers Allowance or earn below £34,000

Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study. You will be given a learning plan with submission dates to meet over the 40 weeks. We recommended allowing a minimum of 5 hours per week to study this course in your own time. This course is available:

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following qualifications:
- Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (England)
- Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
- Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health
- Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care
