This qualification is designed to provide learners with an understanding of the care and management of diabetes. This certificate in understanding the care and management of diabetes course is great for both individuals interested in developing their understanding of diabetes, as well as employers looking for training to upskill their staff.
This course provides an understanding of diabetes including the treatment and management of diabetes. Develop an understanding of the different types of diabetes and how they can occur as well as develop knowledge on how diabetes is diagnosed and initial care. This course also develops an awareness of how type 2 diabetes can be delayed with lifestyle changes and teaches about ongoing care and treatment to control blood sugar levels. The treatment and management of diabetes is crucial in ensuring the quality of life for those with this condition.
This course consists of four mandatory units, all of which you will need to complete to gain the full qualification:
- Unit 1: Understand diabetes
Explore the varying functions of glucose and insulin in the blood, the different forms and causes of diabetes, as well as the risk factors associated with each type.
- Unit 2: Prevention and early intervention of type 2 diabetes
Examine the prevention and early intervention of type 2 diabetes, paying attention to how the condition can be delayed, or even prevented, through healthy lifestyle changes.
- Unit 3: Understand the initial care of diabetes
Investigate how Diabetes can be managed and monitored. As well as considering the mental and physical impact that diabetes diagnosis can have on an individual.
- Unit 4: Understand treatment and management of diabetes
Develop an understanding of the ongoing care and treatment recommended to control blood glucose levels and identify how best to prevent and detect complications in people with diabetes.
There are no specific prior learning requirements to take this course, but you may find it helpful if you’ve already achieved a level 1 qualification within the health and social care area.
To complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
- Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
- Will be undertaking your learning within England
- Are aged 19 or above
- There are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will need to have a good standard of English and maths
- Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study.
- We recommended allowing a minimum of 5 to 6 hours per week to study this course in your own time.
- You will be given submission dates for each unit to help you stay on track and complete within the allocated timeframe of 6 months.
- This course is delivered through online assessments and online learning materials.
- You are required to study the learning materials online and then answer the knowledge-based assessments confirming your understanding of the topics.
- We encourage learners to reflect on their own experiences, work-based or personal and include these within their answers where relevant and suitable.
- This is a level 2 qualification, answers should be formed in paragraphs and learners will be required to write in detail, using structured sentences demonstrating knowledge.
