FIND A COURSEThis qualification is designed to increase learners’ knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. Successful completion of the required units will allow the learner to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health.
- focus on the study of mental health and mental well-being to support different occupational areas
- offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge and understanding.
- mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved
- how to support mental well-being through various stages of life
- mental ill-health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill-health
- the skills required to work in a mental health service.
This course consists of the following 5 units, all of which need to be achieved to complete the full qualification:
- Unit 1: Understand the Context of Mental Health Well-Being -
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of a range of current mental health legislation and how it has evolved over time. The learner will consider the changes and how they are applied within the context of mental health service provision.
- Unit 2: Promotion of Mental Health and Well-Being -
In this unit, learners will gain an understanding of the factors that might influence mental health and well-being in the different stages of a person’s life. The learner will explore current national strategies and public health campaigns to demonstrate an understanding of how to support people to improve their mental health and well-being.
- Unit 3: Mental Health Problems Associated Issues and Consequences -
In this unit, learners will explain the social consequences of mental health problems for the individual, their family and society as a whole. The learner will consider the effects of substance and alcohol misuse and consider the links between mental health and offending.
- Unit 4: Understanding Mental Ill Health -
In this unit, learners will gain an understanding of a range of mental health conditions. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of the recovery model and the role of the mental health worker in supporting individuals.
- Unit 5: Working in Mental Health -
In this unit, learners will know how to develop skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for working in mental health services. The learner will explore the roles, responsibilities and sources of support available within and outside of the work setting.
- Learners will already have achieved a level 2 qualification in Autism or a related subject.
- Learners have achieved a level 2 or equivalent in English
- Learners will be required to provide a written statement explaining why they wish to undertake this level 3 and how this course will benefit them.
- Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
- Will be undertaking your learning within England
- Are aged 19 or above
- You are in receipt of Universal Credit, confirmed by proof of your most recent statement
Proof of earning below £34,000, confirmed with two recent Wage Slips
- Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study.
- We recommended allowing a minimum of 5 to 6 hours per week to study this course in your own time.
- You will be given submission dates for each unit to help you stay on track and complete within the allocated timeframe of 6 months.
- This course is delivered through online assessments and online learning materials.
- You are required to study the learning materials online and then answer knowledge-based assessments that confirm your understanding of the topics.
- We encourage learners to reflect on their own experiences, work-based or personal and include these within their answers where relevant and suitable.
- This is a level 2 qualification, answers should be formed in paragraphs and learners will be required to write in detail, using structured sentences demonstrating knowledge.
- Learners are allocated a marker, who will provide feedback and guidance on all assessment submissions.
